My dad and brother-in-law served their country in the US Army, and I've always been very proud of them. Both won the Bronze Star for bravery, my dad in WW II, my brother-in-law in Viet Nam. Their stories, about their selfless actions in the middle of conflict, appear in the anthology, VOICE OF A SOLDIER.

"My Hero, My Dad" tells how my dad risked his life to save men and equipment. The story tells how Dad won the Bronze Star Medal for bravery. On May 5, 1945, near Leonding, Austria, a convoy of Company ‘K’ (260th Infantry Regiment) was subjected to an intense 88mm artillery barrage. The men dismounted from trucks and sought cover. Realizing his truck was in the center of the artillery concentration and knowing the value of the vehicle to the company, Private First Class John F. Ross left his covered position and ran to the truck. He managed to drive it through enemy fire to safety.

Jeffrey J. Tracey

"Love Beyond Brave" is the story of my brother-in-law’s bravery in Viet Nam near Kontum Province. Well-aimed enemy fire threatened their relocation, but they pushed forward, amid severe mortar barrage. One mortar shell landed within a few feet of the command post. With no concern for his own welfare, acting with spirit and courage that far surpassed the call of duty, SP-4 Jeffrey Tracey pounced on the potentially lethal round, covered it with his helmet, then with his own body. Seconds turned to minutes before the men realized the mortar had failed to detonate. Battalion commander, Colonel Duquivm, later decorated Jeffrey with the Bronze Star of Valor for gallantry in action against hostile forces.

These short stories are my way of showing gratitude to not only my family, but to all America’s Veterans.

Voice of a Soldier

The anthology is full of the sacrifices made by many brave men and women - veterans, America's finest. Americans enjoy - freedom of speech, freedom of religion, the right to demonstrate, the right to bear arms, the right to vote for our elected officials - all because brave men and women proudly serve their country. This is a thank you to those who willingly risk their life for those of us at home.

I am proud to be an American.
