Maggie Ross travels to Salt Creek, Georgia to claim an inheritance her birth father left, and uncover the mysteries of her past. When she arrives, she feels the presence of a ghost, and is haunted by memories of another time and another life. She fingers her antique charm necklace and sees herself as Margaret, in the past with her true love, Hunter. She must unravel the puzzle of why her look-a-like ancestress committed suicide.

The mysteries intensify when she meets darkly handsome Garret O'Connor, her new neighbor and the man hired to restore Sunrise Point to its original glory . His family has held a grudge for Maggie's great-great aunt ever since she promised to marry, then refused Hunter. He is bewitched by Maggie's resemblance to her. He fights the pull, but finds he's met the one woman he can love.
